Bosco di Monteferraro

Utworzono:

Situated between the territories of Conversano and Turi, in the heart of karstic plateau called „Murgia barese”, the Bosco di Monteferraro is one of the last vestiges of Mediterranean scrub in this area of Apulia. With an extension of around 6.5 hectares, this strip of nature has repeatedly risked being converted to intensive agricultural use. Fortunately, in 2022 it was purchased by a group of 350 citizens through a €40,000 fund-raising campaign, turning it into a “community place”.

The hike begins in the late afternoon with a meeting point at 5 p.m. at the Feudo di Monteferraro, a star􀆟tig point chosen for its logistical convenience. The walk follows a 5.5 km loop with a slight difference in altitude (60 m), crossing dirt paths and natural terrain. The landscape recounts three centuries of agricultural history, among olive groves, dry stone walls and breathtaking views of the town of Conversano A route suitable for all levels of fitness, perfect for those seeking connection with the environment and moments of shared discovery.

This excursion was also an opportunity to hone the skills developed in the “Treasures of Europe” project, relating to the ability to portray and narrate (by conventional and non-professional means) one’s own territory.
